How To Organize Your Online Store
Successful businesses always set up their stores in such a way that they can maximize their sales. Your local hardware store, for example, will be organized so that customers can find the items they want easily. As soon as they enter the store, they feel like they already know their way around, because everything is prominently displayed.
Think of your homepage as the entrance to your hardware store. When somebody comes in and they want to buy a chainsaw, they don’t want to have to look everywhere. They want to go straight to the chainsaw section of the store.
They are going to be very disappointed if they go to the chainsaw department and only see one chainsaw on display. Even if it happens to be a huskie and they’re looking for a husqvarna chainsaw, they are going to want to be able to choose between the full range of models and sizes.
If you’ve got a great deal on an echo chainsaw, you’re going to want it to attract your customer’s attention. To do that, you put it on display together with an eye-catching ‘Sale!’ sign.
You will also want to have the full range of brands of chainsaws for them to choose from. Your chances of making a sale only increase if you’ve got a large variety to choose from. If they want a McCulloch chainsaw, you’d better have a range of McCulloch’s for them to look at and be able to compare against the other brands.
So, the first thing you do is set up your homepage so that your visitors can find what they’ve come there for. However, a well set up hardware store is also designed to entice people to buy things they didn’t come in for. If they come in for a box of screws, you want them to buy a set of screwdrivers, too. If you display the screwdrivers next to the screws, they are likely to grab a set of those before they leave the store.
Think about this concept, too, when you’re setting up your online store. You want to sell items that are related to your core products. Perhaps your core business is selling metaphysical books. While there is not much profit on a book sale, if you also sell ereaders and ebooks, you can make big profits from the readers.
You can see that there are a number of things to consider when you’re setting up an online store. Cover all your bases and you maximize your chances of converting a visit into a sale. Finally, when people do go to your virtual checkout counter, make sure it’s set up so they can quickly and easily make their purchase. Your website is your store. Set it up like you would any other store and you’re on the right track.
